LNER has announced extra train services to help transport thousands for this year's Great North Run, set to be the biggest ever. On the morning of Sunday, September 13, those travelling to the region from across the country can benefit from more trains.
Additional services from key cities
Those travelling from places such as Edinburgh, Durham, Darlington, Doncaster, and Leeds will be able to take full advantage of the additional services, ensuring that everyone who needs to be in the North East for the event can be here with plenty of time to spare.
This supplements changes that have already been made by LNER in December 2025, with the frequency of services between Newcastle and London rising from two to three per hour in each direction, seven days a week, bringing a more consistent transport model.
Staff fundraising for CALM
This also comes as several staff members are set to run the world's largest half-marathon and they have been fundraising in the process to support the company's charity partner Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
The times of the additional trains which have been added on the morning of Sunday, September 13 are as follows:
- 06:45 from Edinburgh Waverley, calling at Dunbar (07:07), Reston (07:23), Berwick-upon-Tweed (07:34), Alnmouth (07:55), Morpeth (08:09), arriving at Newcastle at 08:23.
- 07:00 from Leeds, calling at York (07:25), Northallerton (07:45), Darlington (07:59), Durham (08:16), arriving at Newcastle at 08:32.
- 07:00 from Doncaster calling at York (07:22), Darlington (07:50), Durham (08:08), arriving at Newcastle at 08:23.
- 07:05 from Darlington, calling at Durham (07:22), arriving at Newcastle at 07:38.
- 08:34 from Darlington, calling at Durham (08:51), arriving at Newcastle at 09:07.
