A KLM flight bound for Amsterdam from São Paulo was forced to make an emergency return after a passenger's portable charger burst into flames mid-air, sparking panic among travellers.
The incident occurred shortly after takeoff when smoke was detected in the cabin. Crew members acted swiftly to contain the fire, using onboard extinguishers to prevent further danger.
Passengers Describe Chaotic Scene
Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames and thick smoke emanating from a seat near the middle of the aircraft. "It was terrifying—people were shouting, and the smell of burning plastic filled the cabin," one passenger recounted.
The flight crew immediately initiated emergency protocols, instructing passengers to remain calm while they dealt with the situation. The pilot then announced the decision to return to São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport as a precaution.
