A taxi driver who died in a three-car crash in Kent has been named as 63-year-old Brian Maitland from Maidstone. The collision occurred on Cranbrook Road, Knox Bridge, on Tuesday evening.
Mr Maitland was pronounced dead at the scene. A 47-year-old woman passenger in the front of his cab also died; her identity has not yet been released by police.
An 18-year-old female passenger in the back of the taxi sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition. The drivers of the other two vehicles, a man and a woman both from Maidstone and in their 40s, were treated for minor injuries.
Mr Maitland's family described him as a loving husband, father and grandfather who was happiest with his wife, Linda, their two sons, and their friends. Kent Police have stated that a post-mortem examination will be carried out next week.
The accident happened on a stretch of road that is a continuation of the A229 between Frittenden and Staplehurst. A two-mile section was closed for several hours to allow investigators to examine the scene.
