The airport's success is attributed to meticulous baggage handling procedures, including placing suitcases on carousels with handles facing outward for easier collection. This small detail has been highlighted as a key strategic move.
In a 2015 ranking by Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy, Kansai topped the list for baggage handling among 550 airports worldwide. Seven of the top ten airports were in Asia, with Tokyo's Haneda and Narita also featuring.
The airport was originally built to alleviate overcrowding at Osaka International. Its consistent performance has earned praise from travellers, with 13 million user reviews contributing to the Skytrax analysis.
