Jack Diggle, 23, was one of four men who died in a crash on Liverpool Road, Huyton, in the early hours of Friday, July 24. Merseyside Police were called just before 2am to reports that a black Cupra had hit a lamppost. All four men, in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
Mother's tribute
Jack's mother described her son as "quiet, thoughtful and loving". She said he was blessed with a "wonderful" group of friends who had been by his side for most of his life. Jack was a proud Everton FC supporter with a passion for watching and playing darts. "In fact, he was due to travel to Blackpool today with his friends to watch the darts, something he had been looking forward to," the family tribute said.
"Jack and I went out for a meal together on Thursday. It was such a lovely time, just mother and son, enjoying each other's company. Little did I know that it would be the last time we would spend together." The loss of Jack has "left a hole" in the lives and hearts of those around him that can "never" be filled. "We will carry him with us every day and miss him for the rest of our lives. Our Jack, our gentle giant, we love you beyond words and will love you forever. Rest peacefully, son."
Tributes at the scene
Flowers and cards were left near the crash site. On Facebook, one tribute said: "Condolences to all the families on the sad loss of your loved ones. May they rest in peace." Other comments included: "Such sad sad news. Deepest sympathy to their families" and "Hope their loved ones find the strength to cope with the horrendous tragedy that they are now having to deal with, absolutely heart breaking, so unbelievably sad." A further tribute said: "Absolutely heartbreaking thinking of all their poor mums and family, couldn't imagine the pain you are all in. Fly high boys RIP."
