Two aircraft were involved in a 'minor collision' on the runway at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday evening, according to airport officials. Emergency services attended the scene, but no injuries were reported.
The incident involved an Icelandair plane and a Korean Air aircraft, which collided on the airfield at approximately 8pm. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
A Heathrow spokesperson confirmed that emergency services were responding to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew. There was no significant impact on departures or arrivals, but passengers were advised to check flight status with their airlines.
Dan Sabbagh, a passenger on the Korean Air flight to Seoul, reported seeing around 10 police cars and two fire engines near the plane. He said passengers were deboarded for safety reasons. Another passenger, Richard Taylor, described seeing the left wing of the Korean Air plane clip the tail of the parked Icelandair aircraft during taxiing, causing what appeared to be shards to break off.
The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service attended the scene. An LAS spokesman confirmed that resources including a hazardous area response team were deployed, but no passengers required treatment or hospitalisation.
