Reasons for Roadworks
Street works are conducted for various purposes, such as road modifications, emergency repairs, and utility company operations. However, a 2025 parliamentary transport committee report highlighted that these works can be a source of frustration for road users. The report stated: "They can also be a source of frustration for anyone trying to get around on roads and pavements by causing congestion and delays that harm the economy, disrupt transport services and limit access to high streets and businesses."
