National Highways has confirmed a series of planned overnight closures on motorways in and around Greater Manchester between Monday, 31 August, and Thursday, 3 September. Sections of the M6, M60, M62, M56, M61 and A34 will be shut to traffic, along with the A56, A627M and M67.
Longer-term closures
Two roads are subject to longer-term closures. The A56 southbound Bent Gate exit slip road is closed from 05:00 on 27 July until 00:00 on 31 August. The A62 at Gildersome through Northern roundabout is closed 24/7 in both directions from 20:00 on 3 August until 06:00 on 31 October.
Tuesday, 1 September
On Tuesday, closures include the M62 eastbound between junctions 22 and 24, with slip road closures at junctions 22, 23 and 24, and the M62 westbound between junctions 24 and 22. The M60 clockwise has slip road closures at junctions 3, 17 and 22, plus a carriageway closure from junction 18 anticlockwise to the M66 northbound. The M6 southbound has link road closures to the M1 and M62, and the M6 northbound has a carriageway closure between junctions 6 and 7.
The M56 has closures on both eastbound and westbound carriageways between junctions 15 and 16, with entry slip road closures at junction 16. The M61 northbound junction 4 exit slip road is closed, as are the M67 eastbound and westbound carriageways between junctions 3 and 4. The A34 northbound has a carriageway closure from Marcham to Abingdon, and the A56 southbound Edenfield exit slip road is closed.
Wednesday, 2 September
On Wednesday, the M60 clockwise has a carriageway closure between junctions 9 and 12, with slip road closures at junctions 9, 10 and 11. The M62 eastbound and westbound closures between junctions 22 and 24 continue, along with the M62 westbound closure between junctions 28 and 27. The M6 southbound has a carriageway closure between junctions 22 and 21a, and the M6 northbound has a closure between junctions 8 and the M5 southbound link road.
The M56 westbound has a carriageway closure from junction 14 to the A494 Park Gate, with an entry slip road closure at junction 14. The A627M southbound is closed from junction 1 to the A663 Middleton Road, and the A34 northbound has slip road closures at Peartree and Litchfield. The M66 southbound junction 4 to M60 clockwise carriageway is closed.
Thursday, 3 September
On Thursday, the M62 eastbound and westbound closures between junctions 22 and 24 continue, along with the M62 westbound closure between junctions 28 and 27. The M60 clockwise has the same junction 9 to 12 carriageway closure, and the M60 anticlockwise junction 24 exit slip road is closed. The M6 northbound has a carriageway closure between junctions 36 and 39, and the M6 southbound has closures at junction 21 and from the Scotland border to junction 44.
The M56 eastbound has a carriageway closure between junctions 16 and 15, and the M56 westbound has a closure between junctions 15 and 16. The A56 southbound has a carriageway closure from Bent Gate to M66 junction 1, and the A34 southbound has slip road closures at Peartree and Beedon. The M62 junction 33 Ferrybridge roundabout southern quadrant is closed in both directions.
