National Highways has confirmed a series of overnight motorway closures across Greater Manchester between Monday, 24 August, and Thursday, 27 August. Sections of the M6, M60, M62, M56, M61 and A34 will be shut to traffic during the week.
Longer-term closures
Several closures are already in place for extended periods. The A56 southbound Bent Gate exit slip road is closed from 05:00 on 27 July 2026 until 00:00 on 31 August 2026. The A62 at Gildersome through Northern roundabout has a 24/7 carriageway closure in both directions from 20:00 on 3 August 2026 to 06:00 on 31 October 2026.
Monday, 24 August closures
On Monday, the M60 will see multiple closures, including the anticlockwise and clockwise links to the M62 westbound from 22:00 to 05:00, and junction 8 to 7 CD link carriageway closure from 21:00 to 06:00. Entry and exit slip roads at junction 7 will be closed in both directions from 20:00 to 06:00.
The M6 southbound has closures including the link to the M1 from 20:00 to 06:00, junction 27 entry slip from 21:00 to 06:00, and Knutsford Services exit slip from 21:00 to 05:00. The M6 northbound junction 32 carriageway closes from 22:00 to 06:00.
The M62 eastbound has closures at junction 27 entry slip (20:00–06:00), junction 32a to 33 carriageway (21:00–06:00), junction 33 exit slip (21:00–06:00), and junction 11 entry slip (21:00–05:00). The M62 westbound has a closure at junction 10 exit slip from 20:00 to 05:00, and the junction 35 to M18 southbound junction 7 carriageway from 20:00 to 06:00.
The M61 northbound has closures between junctions 4 and 5, including the carriageway and slip roads, from 21:00 to 06:00. The M56 westbound junction 15 to 16 carriageway closes from 21:00 to 06:00. The A34 has closures at the southbound to M56 westbound link, northbound Marcham to Abingdon, and southbound Botley exit slip, all from 21:00 to 06:00. The A6 northbound Raynesway exit slip closes from 20:00 to 06:00.
Tuesday, 25 August closures
Tuesday sees similar closures on the M60, M6, M61, and M62. The M56 westbound has closures at junction 14 to A494 Park Gate, junction 14 entry slip, and links to the M53 southbound and northbound, all from 21:00 to 05:00, plus the Sharston Link junction 2 carriageway from 21:00 to 06:00.
The M6 southbound has closures at junction 20 entry to M56 links and the link to M56 westbound, both from 21:00 to 05:00. The M6 northbound junction 32 carriageway closes from 22:00 to 06:00. The M62 westbound has closures at junction 35 to M18 southbound junction 7 from 22:00 to 06:00, and junction 11 exit slip from 21:00 to 05:00. The M62 eastbound has closures at junction 35 to M18 southbound junction 7, junction 27 entry slip, junction 32a to 33, and junction 33 exit slip, with times varying from 20:00 to 06:00.
Wednesday, 26 August closures
On Wednesday, the M6 northbound has closures at junction 26 exit slip, junction 32 carriageway, and junction 6 to 7 carriageway with entry links, all from 21:00 to 06:00 (junction 32 from 22:00). The M6 southbound has closures at the M1 link, junction 20 entry to M56 links, junction 20 link to M56 westbound, junction 26 exit slip, and junction 44 exit slip, with times from 20:00 to 06:00.
The M60 has closures at junction 7 slip roads in both directions from 20:00 to 06:00, and junction 18 to 19 carriageway with junction 19 exit and junction 18 entry slips from 21:00 to 06:00. The M61 northbound junction 4 exit slip closes from 21:00 to 06:00. The M56 westbound has closures at junction 14 entry slip (21:00–05:00), Sharston Link junction 2 (21:00–06:00), and junction 12 exit slip (21:00–06:00).
The M62 has extensive closures: eastbound junction 22 to 24 carriageway with slip roads from 20:00 to 06:00, westbound junction 24 to 22 with slips from 20:00 to 06:00, westbound junction 35 to M18 southbound junction 7 from 20:00 to 06:00, eastbound junction 35 to M18 from 20:00 to 06:00, westbound junction 34 entry and exit slips from 20:00 to 06:00, eastbound junction 27 entry slip from 20:00 to 06:00, westbound junction 30 to 29 carriageway from 20:00 to 05:00, eastbound and westbound junction 11 exit slips from 20:00 to 05:00, eastbound junction 7 exit slip from 21:00 to 05:00, westbound to M60 clockwise link from 21:00 to 06:00, and westbound junction 9 exit slip from 21:00 to 05:00.
Thursday, 27 August closures
Thursday's closures include the M56 westbound junction 7 to 9 carriageway from 22:00 to 06:00, junction 8 entry slip from 22:00 to 06:00, link to M6 northbound from 22:00 to 06:00, and junction 14 exit slip from 21:30 to 06:00. The M56 eastbound junction 2 entry slip closes from 21:00 to 06:00.
The M6 southbound has closures at junction 20 entry to M56 links and link to M56 westbound from 21:00 to 05:00, junction 26 exit slip from 21:00 to 06:00, and junction 44 exit slip from 20:00 to 06:00. The M6 northbound has closures at junction 26 exit slip, junction 32 carriageway, and junction 6 to 7 with entry links, from 21:00 to 06:00 (junction 32 from 22:00).
