National Highways has confirmed a series of planned overnight closures on major motorways in Greater Manchester and surrounding areas from Monday, July 6 through Thursday, July 9. The closures affect the M6, M60, M62, M56, M61, M66, M602, A34, A56, and A580, with work scheduled between 8pm and 6am on most nights. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes or allow extra travel time.
Long-Term and Ongoing Closures
A long-term closure remains in place on the A34 northbound at the Abingdon entry slip, in effect from 8pm on June 3 until 6am on July 10. Additionally, the M6 northbound and southbound at Junction 41 will have entry and exit slip road closures from 7am on July 6 until 10pm on July 18.
Monday, July 6
On Monday, closures begin as early as 8pm on the M6 northbound at Junction 32 exit slip, lasting until 6am. The M6 northbound between Junctions 33 and 34 will be closed from 9pm to 6am, along with multiple other M6 sections and link roads. The M60 anticlockwise carriageway between Junctions 24 and 23 closes from 11:59pm to 6am, while the M60 clockwise at Junction 2 entry slip closes from 9pm to 6am. The M62 eastbound sees closures at Junction 34 entry and exit slips from 8pm, and the M62 westbound between Junctions 10 and 9 closes from 10:30pm. The M61 southbound between Junctions 3 and 2 closes from 10pm, and the M66 southbound at Junction 4 carriageway closes from 9pm.
Tuesday, July 7
Tuesday's schedule includes many repeat closures from Monday, such as the M6 northbound at Junction 32 exit slip (8pm-6am) and the M6 northbound Junctions 33-34 (9pm-6am). The M60 clockwise Junction 2 entry slip closes again from 9pm, and the M62 eastbound at Junction 34 entry and exit slips close from 8pm. New closures include the M6 northbound to M65 westbound link road (9pm-5am) and the M60 clockwise Junction 7 exit slip to CD link road (11pm-6am). The A580 westbound to M57 northbound link road closes from 9pm to 5am.
Wednesday, July 8
Wednesday adds several new closures: the M6 northbound at Junction 31 carriageway (9pm-5am), the M6 southbound at Junction 12 exit slip (9pm-6am), and the M6 southbound from Junction 30 to M61 Junction 9 (10pm-6am). The M60 clockwise sees closures at Junction 25 exit slip and Junction 27 entry slip (both 9pm-6am), as well as Junction 17 entry slip and the carriageway between Junctions 17 and 18 (both 9pm-6am). The M602 westbound carriageway between Junctions 2 and 1 closes from 9pm, along with the M602 westbound to M60 anticlockwise and clockwise link roads. The M62 westbound between Junctions 21 and 19 closes from 10pm, and the M66 northbound link road from M66 clockwise closes from 9pm.
Thursday, July 9
Thursday's closures include the A34 northbound at Litchfield entry and exit slips (9pm-6am), and the A56 southbound at Rising Bridge to Bent Gate carriageway (9pm-5am). The A580 eastbound and westbound at Haydock Island will have carriageway closures from 9pm to 5am. The M60 clockwise at Junction 26 entry and exit slips close from 9pm, and the M60 clockwise between Junctions 17 and 18 repeats. The M61 northbound from Junction 9 to M6 Junction 30 closes from 10pm, and the M62 westbound between Junctions 9 and 8 closes from 11pm. The M66 northbound link road closes again from 9pm.
National Highways advises all drivers to check live traffic updates and allow extra time for journeys during these periods.
