National Highways has announced a series of planned overnight closures across Greater Manchester's major motorways from Friday, July 3, to the early hours of Monday, July 6. The closures affect sections of the M6, M60, M62, M56, M66, and A34, with work scheduled between 20:00 and 06:00 on most nights. Motorists are advised to check routes before travelling.
Friday, July 3 Closures
On Friday night, the M6 northbound sees a carriageway closure between junctions 33 and 34 from 21:00 to 06:00, along with exit slip closures at junction 32 (20:00-06:00) and entry slip closure at junction 33. Southbound, the M6 has an entry slip closure at junction 38 (20:00-05:00) and a carriageway closure between junctions 6 and 4 (21:00-06:00). Link roads to the M42 are also affected.
The M60 clockwise will have a carriageway closure between junctions 22 and 23 (21:00-05:00), with entry slip closure at junction 22 and exit slip closure at junction 23. Junction 21 also sees a closure between exit and entry slips.
On the M62, multiple closures are planned: eastbound exit slip at junction 29 (20:00-06:00), carriageway closures between junctions 9-10 (23:00-06:00), and westbound carriageway closure between junctions 19-18 (23:00-06:00). Link roads to the M6 and M60 are also shut. The M56 eastbound has slip road closures at junctions 2, 3, and 11, all from 21:00 to 06:00. M66 southbound closures include the link to M62 eastbound and exit slip at junction 4 (21:00-06:00). The A34 northbound Marcham to Hinksey Hill carriageway closes from 21:00 to 06:00, part of a long-term closure since June 3 until July 10.
Saturday, July 4 Closures
Saturday daytime sees the M6 southbound dedicated exit slip at junction 4 closed from 09:30 to 15:30. Overnight, the M6 northbound has an exit slip closure at junction 20 (21:00-06:00) and carriageway closure between junctions 33-34 (21:00-06:00). The M56 eastbound features a carriageway closure between junctions 5 and 2 (21:00-04:00), with entry slip closures at junctions 5 and 4, and a junction 6 carriageway closure between slips. The M60 clockwise repeats the junction 21-23 closures from 23:59 to 05:00. M62 closures include junction 29 roundabout quadrants (20:00-06:00), westbound carriageway closure between junctions 34-33 (20:00-06:00), and junction 11 closures on both eastbound and westbound (22:00-06:00). M66 southbound link and exit slip closures remain from 21:00 to 06:00.
Sunday, July 5 Closures
Sunday daytime again closes the M6 southbound junction 4 exit slip from 09:30 to 15:30. Overnight, the M6 northbound adds a carriageway closure at junction 31 (21:00-05:00) and exit slip closure at junction 5 (22:00-05:00). The M60 clockwise closes between junctions 23 and 24 (22:00-06:00), with entry slip closures at junction 23 (both A635 and A6140) and exit slip at junction 24. Anti-clockwise, the M60 closes between junctions 12 and 11 (22:00-06:00). M62 westbound sees closures between junctions 34-33 (22:00-06:00) and 36-34 (20:00-06:00), with entry and exit slip closures. Eastbound link roads to the M60 are shut (22:00-06:00), and junction 11 closures continue. M66 southbound closures repeat from 21:00 to 06:00.
Long-Term and Additional Closures
The A34 northbound Marcham to Hinksey Hill carriageway remains closed nightly from 21:00 to 06:00 until July 10, due to ongoing works. The M602 eastbound junction 2 entry slip closes Friday only (21:00-06:00). Drivers are urged to allow extra time for journeys and follow diversion signs.
