National Highways has announced a series of planned overnight closures across Greater Manchester's motorway network from Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12, 2026. The affected roads include the M60, M6, M62, M56, M61, and A34, with works scheduled to minimise daytime disruption.
Long-Term Closures Still in Effect
Two ongoing closures remain in place. The A34 southbound Abingdon exit slip road has been shut since 5am on July 6 and will reopen at 6am on August 6. Additionally, the M6 junction 41 entry and exit slip roads in both directions are closed from 7am on July 6 until 10pm on July 18.
Friday, July 10: Extensive Overnight Works
On Friday night, closures begin as early as 20:00 and last until 06:00 or 07:00 the next morning. Key closures include:
- M6: Southbound carriageway closures between junctions 23 and 22, and junctions 6 to 4, plus multiple slip road closures from 21:00 to 05:00. Northbound closures include junction 32 exit slip (20:00-06:00) and junction 33 to 34 carriageway (21:00-06:00).
- M60: Anti-clockwise closures between junctions 24 and 23, including entry and exit slips, from 22:00 to 06:00. Clockwise closures between junctions 17 and 18, and link roads to M66, from 21:00 to 07:00.
- M62: Eastbound junction 29 entry slip closed from 20:00 to 06:00, and both directions at junction 29 Lofthouse roundabout northern quadrant closed same hours. Eastbound and westbound junction 11 exit slips closed 21:00-06:00.
- M61: Northbound junction 4 entry slip (20:00-06:00) and junction 9 to M6 junction 30 carriageway (22:00-06:00). Southbound junction 3 to 2 carriageway closure from 22:00 to 06:00.
- M602: Eastbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3, plus entry and exit slips, closed 21:00-06:00.
Saturday, July 11: Continued Disruptions
Saturday night sees similar patterns, with closures starting from 20:00. Highlights include:
- M56: Westbound and eastbound junction 7 exit slips closed 21:00-05:00. Westbound carriageway between junctions 1 and 3, plus junction 2 exit slip, closed 23:00-05:00.
- M6: Southbound closures mirror Friday's between junctions 23 and 22 (21:00-05:00). Northbound junction 33 to 34 carriageway and entry slip closed 21:00-06:00.
- M60: Anti-clockwise junction 23 exit slip closed 22:00-05:00. Clockwise closures between junctions 17 and 18 continue from 22:00 to 07:00, and junction 2 entry slip closed 23:00-05:00.
- M62: Westbound junction 33 to 32a closed 20:00-06:00, and westbound to M6 southbound link road closed 21:00-06:00.
- Two M60 anti-clockwise closures (junction 24 entry slip and carriageway between junctions 24 and 23) run from 22:00 on Saturday until 05:00 on Monday, July 13.
Sunday, July 12: Final Night of Works
Sunday night's closures are primarily overnight from 21:00 or 23:00 until 05:00 Monday. Key closures:
- M56: Same as Saturday: junction 7 exit slips (21:00-05:00) and westbound carriageway junctions 1-3 with junction 2 exit slip (23:00-05:00).
- M6: Northbound carriageway between junctions 23 and 26, plus entry slips at junctions 23 and 24, and exit slips at junctions 25 and 26, all closed 23:00-05:00.
- M60: Clockwise junction 2 entry slip closed 23:00-05:00.
- M602: Westbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2, plus entry and exit slips, closed 21:00-05:00.
- M61: Southbound junction 3 exit slip closed 21:00-05:00, and northbound junction 3 exit to A666 closed same hours.
- The two M60 anti-clockwise closures from Saturday continue until 05:00 Monday.
