National Highways has confirmed a series of overnight motorway closures across Greater Manchester between Friday, September 25 and Sunday, September 27, affecting sections of the M6, M60, M62, M56, M61 and A34.
The planned works include carriageway closures, slip road closures and link road closures in both directions on several major routes. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and check for diversions.
Longer-term closures
The A62 northbound and southbound at Gildersome through Northern roundabout will be closed 24/7 from 20:00 on August 3, 2026 to 06:00 on October 31, 2026. The M62 eastbound junction 34 entry slip road will be closed 24/7 from 06:00 on September 25, 2026 to 06:00 on April 25, 2027.
Friday, September 25 closures
On Friday, closures include the M6 southbound between junctions 15 and 14 and junctions 4 and 2, the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 21 and 19, and the M62 westbound between junctions 36 and 35. Slip road closures are also scheduled at various junctions on the M6, M60, M61, M62, M56 and A34.
Specific overnight closures run from 19:00 or 20:00 until 05:00 or 06:00 the following morning, with some M60 anticlockwise closures starting at 23:59.
Saturday and Sunday closures
Saturday closures include the M6 southbound between junctions 10 and 8, the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 8 and 5, and the M62 eastbound at junction 27. Several M60 clockwise closures around junctions 17 and 18 and the M62 westbound between junctions 18 and the M60 junction 17 will run from 20:00 or 22:00 on September 26 until 06:00 on September 28.
Sunday closures include the M6 southbound between junctions 10 and 8, the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 8 and 5, and the A34 northbound at Chilton to Milton. The M62 eastbound junction 28 exit slip road and the M62 westbound junction 23 entry slip road will also be closed overnight.
