National Highways has confirmed a series of overnight closures on motorways across Greater Manchester between Friday, October 2 and Sunday, October 4, 2026. Sections of the M60, M6, M62, M56, M61 and A34 will be shut to traffic during this period.
Longer-Term Closures
Several closures are scheduled to run beyond the weekend. The A62 Northbound and Southbound at Gildersome through Northern roundabout will have a carriageway closure 24/7 from 20:00 on August 3, 2026 to 06:00 on October 31, 2026. The M62 Eastbound Junction 34 entry slip road will be closed 24/7 from 06:00 on September 25, 2026 to 06:00 on April 25, 2027. The M67 Eastbound between Junction 0 and Junction 2 will have a carriageway closure from 21:00 on October 2 to 05:00 on October 5, along with the Junction 1 exit slip road closure during the same period.
Friday, 2 October Closures
On Friday, overnight closures include the M60 Clockwise Junction 14 to 17 carriageway closure from 23:00 to 06:00, along with entry slip road closures at Junction 14 and 16, and an exit slip road closure at Junction 17. The M61 Southbound link road to M60 clockwise will close from 23:00 to 06:00. The M62 Westbound Junction 36 to Junction 35 carriageway will close from 20:00 to 06:00, with the Junction 36 entry slip road also closed. The M62 Westbound Junction 35 to M18 southbound Junction 7 carriageway will close from 20:00 to 06:00.
On the M6, the Southbound link road to M1 southbound will close from 20:00 to 06:00, and the M6 Southbound to M56 eastbound and westbound link road closure from Lymm will be in place from 21:00 to 06:00. The M6 Northbound Junction 26 exit slip road will close from 20:00 to 06:00, and the M6 Southbound Junction 41 entry slip road will close from 20:00 to 06:00. The M6 Northbound Junction 15 to Junction 16 carriageway will close from 22:45 to 06:00, and the M6 Northbound Junction 2 to Junction 4 carriageway will close from 21:00 to 06:00. The M6 Northbound Junction 11 to Junction 12 carriageway will also close from 21:00 to 06:00.
On the M56, the Westbound to M53 Northbound link road will close from 20:00 to 06:00, and the Eastbound Junction 9 to 7 carriageway will close from 22:00 to 06:00, along with the Junction 7 exit slip road. The A34 Northbound Marcham to Abingdon carriageway will close from 21:00 to 06:00, and the A34 Southbound Milton to Chilton carriageway will close from 20:30 to 07:00. The M66 Southbound Junction 4 to M60 Clockwise Junction 18 carriageway between exit and entry slips will close from 21:00 to 06:00. The M67 Eastbound Junction 3 to 4 carriageway and the Westbound Junction 4 to 3 carriageway will both close from 20:00 to 06:00, with associated slip road closures.
Saturday and Sunday Closures
On Saturday, October 3, the M60 Clockwise Junction 14 to 17 carriageway closure will repeat from 23:00 to 06:00, with entry slip road closures at Junction 14 and 16 and an exit slip road closure at Junction 17. The M61 Southbound link road to M60 clockwise will close again from 23:00 to 06:00. The M62 Westbound Junction 36 to Junction 35 carriageway and the Junction 36 entry slip road will close from 20:00 to 06:00, and the M62 Westbound Junction 35 to M18 southbound Junction 7 carriageway will close from 20:00 to 06:00. The M62 Westbound Junction 30 exit slip road will close from 20:00 to 06:00, and the Junction 28 exit slip road will close from 20:00 to 05:00. The M56 Westbound Junction 14 exit and entry slip roads will close from 21:00 to 06:00, and the M56 Eastbound Junction 3 to M60 carriageway will close from 23:00 to 06:00.
On Sunday, October 4, the M60 Clockwise and Anti-clockwise Junction 7 exit and entry slip roads will close from 06:30 to 18:00. The M60 Anti-clockwise Junction 22 to 21 carriageway will close from 22:00 to 06:00, and the Junction 5 to 4 carriageway will close from 22:00 to 07:00. The M61 Northbound Junction 9 exit slip road will close from 21:00 to 05:00, and the Rivington exit and entry slip roads will close from 22:00 to 06:00. The M62 Eastbound Junction 37 to Junction 38 carriageway will close from 22:00 to 06:00, with the Junction 37 entry slip road and Junction 38 exit slip road also closed. The M6 Northbound link road to M65 Westbound will close from 21:00 to 05:00, and the M6 Southbound Junction 45 entry slip road will close from 20:00 to 06:00. The A34 Northbound Marcham to Abingdon carriageway will close from 21:00 to 06:00, and the A34 Southbound Milton to Chilton carriageway will close from 21:00 to 06:00. The M56 Westbound Junction 14 to A494 Park Gate carriageway will close from 21:00 to 05:00, with associated link road closures to M53 Northbound and Southbound.
