National Highways has confirmed a series of planned overnight closures on Greater Manchester's motorways this week, including sections of the M60, M6 and M62. The closures run from Monday, 21 September, to Thursday, 24 September, with parts of the M56, M61 and A34 also set to shut.
Monday 21 September closures
On Monday, the M6 southbound will see a carriageway closure between junction 30 and M61 junction 9 from 22:00 to 06:00, plus a closure between junctions 19 and 18 and between junctions 4 and 2. Slip road closures are planned at junctions 20, 18, 23 and 42, and Knutsford Services will be closed from 22:00 to 06:00.
The M60 will have anti-clockwise carriageway closures between junctions 17 and 14 from 23:00 to 06:00, with exit slip road closures at junctions 3, 5, 8 and 24. The M62 sees westbound carriageway closures between junctions 36 and 35 and between junction 35 and M18 junction 7, plus eastbound closures between junctions 33 and 34 and between junctions 7 and 8.
Tuesday and Wednesday closures
Tuesday's programme includes M6 northbound closures between junctions 27 and 28 from 23:00 to 06:00 and southbound closures between junctions 17 and 16 from 22:00 to 06:00. Charnock Services will close overnight, and the M602 eastbound will see a carriageway closure at junction 2 between the exit and entry slip roads.
On Wednesday, the M6 southbound has a carriageway closure between junctions 36 and 35 from 20:00 to 06:00, with the M60 clockwise seeing an entry slip road closure at junction 5 from 23:00 to 06:00. The M61 southbound will have exit and entry slip road closures at junction 4 from 21:00 to 05:00.
Thursday closures and long-term works
Thursday's closures include M6 northbound carriageway closures between junctions 32 and 33 from 22:00 to 06:00 and M60 anti-clockwise closures between junctions 21 and 19 from 23:00 to 06:00. The M62 eastbound will see closures between junctions 8 and 9 from 21:00 to 06:00, and the M66 southbound will have a link road closure to the M62 eastbound.
Longer-term closures remain in place on the A62 at Gildersome through the Northern roundabout in both directions, running 24/7 from 20:00 on 3 August 2026 to 06:00 on 31 October 2026. Drivers are advised to check the full schedule of overnight works before travelling.
