Gateshead Metro station closed due to drainage issue
Gateshead Metro station shut for drainage maintenance

Gateshead Metro station has been temporarily closed with trains not stopping due to a 'drainage issue', Nexus announced on Tuesday evening.

Closure and alternative travel

The station shut to passengers during rush-hour shortly before 5pm for essential maintenance between the concourse and platforms. Ticket acceptance is in operation between Haymarket and Heworth stations on Go North East services.

Nexus confirmed inspectors are on site carrying out further investigations. In a post on X just before 5pm, Nexus said: "Gateshead station is temporarily closed. This is while we conduct some essential maintenance between the concourse and the platforms. We have ticket acceptance on all Go North East bus services between Heworth and Haymarket. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause."
