A fire has erupted next to train tracks between Gatwick Airport and Purley, blocking some lines and causing mass delays for several rail carriers.
Services disrupted between Gatwick and Purley
Gatwick Express stated: “There is a fire next to the track between Gatwick Airport and Purley. Some lines are blocked and services will be delayed altered or cancelled.”
The blaze is currently causing mass delays for several rail carriers, with disruption affecting travel in the area.
London Underground and DLR disruptions
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the District line was suspended due to a faulty train at Earl’s Court. The line has since reopened, but minor delays remain.
Severe delays were reported on the eastbound service of the Central line following an earlier faulty train at Notting Hill Gate, with minor delays on the rest of the line. Minor delays also affected the Victoria, Circle and Metropolitan lines.
There was a faulty train at High Street Kensington causing minor delays on the Circle line. Minor delays were also reported on the Northern line between Camden Town and Kennington via Bank southbound only due to a person being taken unwell at Angel, and on the DLR between Woolwich Arsenal and Stratford International due to an earlier electrical fault.
Victoria line infrastructure damage
Minor delays on the Victoria line were due to infrastructure damage at Brixton. The previous day, a signal failure on the Victoria line caused widespread delays for most of the day; it is not clear whether these incidents are related.
Normal service has resumed on the Circle line, and a good service is reported on the remainder of the London Underground.
