A bride-to-be has shared her costly mistake after booking an emergency exit row seat for extra legroom on a flight back from her hen do in Bucharest, Romania. Jess Flaherty and her friends chose the seats for the early morning return flight, hoping to get some sleep with the added space.
However, the downside of emergency exit rows is that no bags can be stored under the seat in front. Flaherty managed to squeeze her small hand luggage underneath, but a carrier bag of sweets and a large chocolate bar she had bought for her fiancé had to go in the overhead compartment. A flight attendant placed the bag above their seats before take-off.
Exhausted from the weekend, Flaherty fell asleep before the safety demonstration ended and woke up about an hour before landing with a sore neck. In her drowsy state, she forgot to retrieve the bag from the overhead bin when disembarking.
Realising her error, Flaherty contacted the airline and was told to fill in an online claim form. She has since received an email asking for further information, but she doubts the sweets and chocolate will be recovered. 'If you’re not a forgetful fool like me, I would recommend booking the emergency exit row for some much-needed legroom – just make sure you double check the overhead compartments before you get off the plane,' she advised.
