Evri delivery disruption triggers nationwide shopper complaints

Evri parcel deliveries are facing major disruption today, with delayed collections, growing parcel backlogs and parcels staying in stores for several days, according to reports from Better Retailing. The issues follow changes made by the UK-wide service to its delivery network.

Network changes behind the disruption

Evri said it was moving from larger central depots to smaller local facilities. The company is now said to be introducing shorter collection routes to ensure drivers have sufficient capacity in their vans. In messages sent to subpostmasters, seen by Better Retailing, Post Office said the issues stemmed from Evri moving “from larger central depots to smaller local depots”.

More than 100 routes have also been added, with 330 additional “sweeper vans” deployed to clear outstanding collections, according to the report.

Shoppers and shop owners speak out

One shop owner said on Facebook: ”For anyone in that’s going to collect parcels in the shop today please be mindful it’s not our fault it’s an Evri issue so please be kind and patient towards staff. Thank you”

Another said: “Anybody else having issues with Evri deliveries? Multiple packages bought from different places are being returned to sender after failed delivery to us, though we aren’t sure why. We haven’t had any issues in the past only in the last couple of weeks.”

A person said on X: ” My towns Facebook page is literally full of posts from people saying Evri delivered their parcel to a random house that isn’t theirs, genuinely the ******* courier I’ve ever seen.” Another added: ”I would like to highlight an ongoing problem with M&S deliveries for online shopping. In our area, but not restricted to, there is a terrible problem with the ability of EVRI to deliver parcels.”

Evri apologises and advises refunds

An Evri spokesperson apologised for the disruption. “We continue to strengthen our entire ParcelShop network to meet parcel volume demand,” the spokesperson said, adding that additional routes were already helping to improve services.

If customers have ordered something for a specific date, they should be able to get a refund on any additional delivery charge they paid from the retailer. The disruption comes after retailers reported associated problems with Evri services, including frustrated customers, incorrect parcels being sent to their stores and collections being left outstanding for several days.
