Evri delays: ParcelShop backlog hits several days amid network overhaul

Evri customers are facing delivery delays of several days as a backlog builds in ParcelShops across the UK, linked to a major overhaul of the company's collection network.

The disruption, which reportedly affects shops and Post Office branches nationwide, comes as Evri switches from larger, more centralised depots to smaller local sites. Parcels are understood to be stuck in stores for several days as a result.

Recovery measures under way

Reports suggest Evri is taking action to clear the backlog by adding extra drivers and introducing shorter collection routes to help with van capacity.

The firm is believed to be adding more than 100 collection routes and around 330 new so-called sweeper vans as part of the recovery measures.

Evri operates a network of more than 11,000 ParcelShops and lockers, as well as more than 500 delivery hubs, depots and units. More than 9,000 of its ParcelShops are based within local firms across the UK, while thousands of Post Offices also offer Evri services.

Company background

The group, which was previously part of the Hermes parcel group, was bought by US private equity firm Apollo for around £2.7bn in 2024 and has since merged with DHL eCommerce UK in 2025.

Founded in Yorkshire in 1974, Evri has expanded rapidly in recent years and now has a team of more than 12,000 employees and more than 30,000 self-employed couriers, between them delivering more than one billion parcels a year.

Evri has been contacted for comment.

Royal Mail also facing delays

Delays are also expected for deliveries by Royal Mail today, with 27 postcodes across the UK listed as potentially affected.

Updated today, September 28, Royal Mail notes that while "delivery and collection services will take place across the UK today", some areas may be affected.

In its 'Deliveries Today' section, Royal Mail explains: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

"In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive."

Apologising and listing the UK postcodes impacted, it writes: "We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted."

The 27 affected postcodes as of September 28 include: Bicester DO (OX25-OX27), Birchwood DO (WA3), Bridge of Don DO (AB22, AB23), Exmouth DO (EX8, EX9), Golders Green DO (NW11), Houghton Le Spring DO (DH4, DH5), Ilfracombe DO (EX34), Nuneaton DO (CV10, CV11, CV13), Reading East DO (RG4-RG6, RG10), Teignmouth DO (TQ14), Thornbury DO (BS35), Wandsworth DO (SW18), and Warrington DO (WA1, WA2, WA4, WA5, WA55).
