England will face Mexico in the World Cup round of 16 on Monday morning, with the Three Lions donning their traditional white home kit. The kit, manufactured by Nike, consists of white shirts, navy shorts, and white socks.
Mexico will take the pitch in their iconic tricolour home combination: a classic green shirt, white shorts, and red socks, produced by adidas. England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford will wear an all-yellow kit, while Mexico stopper Raul Rangel will be kitted out in bright pink.
Kit choice avoids colour-blind clash
England's all-white combination has been used only once so far in this World Cup, against Ghana during the group stages. An all-white kit was also chosen against Croatia, while the red and navy away kit was worn against Panama.
The decision to wear white is significant because England's red away kit would create a red-green colour-blind clash with Mexico's green home shirt, making it difficult for some viewers to distinguish between the teams. Avoiding such clashes mirrors practices in other sports; for example, the Wales and Ireland rugby teams are no longer allowed to wear their respective red and green home kits against each other.
According to Archie Griggs, the kit selection was confirmed ahead of the match, ensuring clarity for all fans.
