An aircraft engineer has suffered serious injuries after falling from the back of a Jet2 plane at Manchester Airport. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8am on Saturday, with the man sustaining multiple fractures to his legs and arms. He remains in hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The engineer was working for a third-party provider contracted by Jet2 when the incident occurred. Images from the scene show the aircraft with a rear door open near the tail, and mobile stairs used for passengers are visible nearby.
A Jet2 spokesperson confirmed that a full investigation has been launched. “We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning involving an individual from a third-party provider,” they said. “We are unable to confirm further details at present, however, can confirm that a full investigation has been launched. We are doing our best to provide support to everyone who needs it.”
Manchester Airport also confirmed the incident, stating that ambulances attended and the man was taken to hospital. Greater Manchester Police said they were aware of the incident. Witnesses reported seeing medical screens placed around the injured man while he was treated on the airfield by paramedics.
This incident follows a similar accident in December last year, when an engineer fell 20 feet from a British Airways jet at Heathrow Airport, sustaining serious injuries.
