Low-cost airline easyJet has announced it will introduce in-flight Wi-Fi for the first time, partnering with SpaceX's Starlink internet service to equip most of its fleet from the first half of 2027.
The rollout will cover the A320, A320neo and A321neo fleet and is scheduled for completion by early 2028, allowing passengers to stream and browse from their own devices. The older Airbus A319 fleet, which easyJet is phasing out, will not receive the service, with full retirement expected by the end of 2029.
First among budget carriers
This marks the first time easyJet has offered onboard internet, putting it ahead of fellow budget airlines Ryanair and Jet2, which do not yet provide in-flight Wi-Fi. The airline, which flies to 38 countries and carried over 100 million passengers in 2025, said the service would be 'the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky.'
Kenton Jarvis, CEO of easyJet, said the airline understood that 'in an increasingly digital world, staying connected matters more than ever to many of our customers.' He added: 'Giving customers the opportunity to get online in the air will mean even greater choice and convenience when you fly with easyJet. Ultimately, it's yet another way we're making travel easy.'
What passengers can expect
Passengers will be able to check real-time flight status via the easyJet app and explore destination guides through a dedicated website. The airline also hopes to introduce an interactive in-flight menu for direct ordering on personal devices.
Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, said: 'We're proud to bring Starlink onboard easyJet and transform the way their customers stay connected throughout their travels. Fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing means people can work, stream, or stay in touch without interruption.'
Pricing details yet to be revealed
The Wi-Fi may come with a fee, though the exact price has not been announced. An easyJet spokesperson told Metro: 'Access to connectivity will be managed by Starlink. As the first aircraft are Starlink-equipped, more details on access including pricing will be shared.' Whether ticket prices could rise has not been confirmed by the airline.
