A TikTok user has shared a simple method to defrost a car windscreen using only a sandwich bag and warm tap water, offering a quick alternative when de-icer runs out.
In the viral video, Clean with Kayleigh fills a zip-lock bag with warm tap water and glides it over the icy screen. She warns against using boiling water, which can shatter the glass. The hack has attracted comments from viewers, with one noting the risk of cracked windows if the water is too hot.
Some drivers prefer to avoid the method altogether, opting to start their cars remotely and wait 10 minutes. The AA recommends remote heating technology as the most effective defrosting method, as it reduces theft risk and, for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, can pre-heat without draining the battery.
