A serious lorry crash on the M25 near the Dartford Tunnel caused significant delays on Monday afternoon, with two lanes closed for nearly 10 hours. The collision occurred on the anti-clockwise carriageway at junction 30 around 2.30pm, National Highways confirmed.
The two lorries involved were heavily damaged, requiring a recovery vehicle with a crane to remove them. One driver was stuck behind the crash for about 20 minutes before traffic was partially released. Police cars blocked the site as workers manoeuvred the rear lorry, which had toppled sideways.
National Highways initially warned that the road might remain closed overnight, with clearance expected around 5am on Tuesday. However, later updates indicated the crash site would clear between 6.15pm and 6.30pm, with traffic returning to normal about an hour later. All lanes eventually reopened, but delays persisted through rush hour.
Junction 30 is a major interchange connecting the M25 with the A13 near Thurrock, north of the Dartford Crossing. The incident caused long queues for drivers heading anti-clockwise, with delays of around an hour reported.
