Double yellow lines near Buckley station to be removed after backlash
Buckley station yellow lines to be removed after backlash

Double yellow lines painted on a narrow road near Buckley railway station in North Wales are set to be removed following complaints from local businesses.

Transport for Wales (TfW) installed the lines on both sides of Station Road along a stretch of roughly 250m leading to the station in July. The move was prompted by concerns that parked cars could obstruct the narrow route.

Businesses report lost customer parking

Local businesses said they were not consulted before the lines were painted and that rail passengers soon began using their customer parking spaces. Ben Williams and Mike Sass of PCM Vehicle Repairs, located close to the station, said: "They got put down in July with no consultation with neighbouring businesses hence the uproar."

"Within the first three days of the yellow lines being there we had railway users parking in our customer parking spaces resulting in a few jobs being unable to be completed as cars were blocked in," they added.

Removal confirmed for November

TfW has since written to those affected, confirming the lines will be removed. The work is scheduled for November 3/4 and will include burning off the existing double yellow lines.

Williams and Sass said: "Transport for Wales initially said the reason was because the road wasn't wide enough for vehicle to park along station road but after a lot of complaints they've finally decided to remove them, we can now operate as normal."

In a social media post, they added: "After raising our concerns and fighting for a better outcome, we've received confirmation from Transport for Wales that the existing double yellow lines will be removed. A massive thank you to everyone who supported us, shared our posts and helped make our voices heard. This is a brilliant result for the local community and businesses."
