A broken down train has blocked the line between Stockport and Altrincham, causing delays and cancellations for passengers in Greater Manchester.
Delays Expected Until 6pm
Trains could be delayed by up to 30 minutes, with disruption expected to last until around 6pm. The affected routes include services between Chester, Mouldsworth, Delamere, Cuddington, Greenbank, Northwich, Lostock, Gralam, Plumley, Knutsford, Mobberley, Ashley, Hale, Altrincham, Navigation Road, Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly.
Operator Statements
National Rail Enquiries stated: "A fault on a train between Altrincham and Stockport means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be revised or delayed by up to 30 minutes."
Northern said: "Train services are unable to run between Altrincham and Stockport in both directions. Services between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly will be affected by this disruption."
Alternative Travel Advice
Passengers are advised to use buses or the Metrolink instead. Northern services between Chester and Manchester Victoria are not affected by the disruption.
This incident comes two days after a power cut caused widespread delays and cancellations across Greater Manchester and the north west. The power outage at Network Rail's Manchester Rail Operating Centre lasted only 90 seconds, but the delay to back-up systems meant trains had to stop running.
