Bristol Airport has suspended all flights this evening due to a defect on the runway. The airport announced the suspension in a statement on its website at 8pm, saying operations would be halted to assess and repair the issue.

Airport statement

In the statement, the airport said: "Due to a defect on the runway, we have suspended operations in order to assess and repair the issue. We apologise for any inconvenience. Safety is always our number one priority."

Customers were advised to contact their airlines for flight queries, as all flights are currently suspended until at least 2300.

Impact on flights

The departures and arrivals boards at the airport list a string of cancelled flights. Inbound flights have been diverted as a result of the closure.
