A distressing video showing a six-year-old boy sticking his head out of a car sunroof and being struck by an overhead barrier has gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred in the residential locality of Vidyaranyapura in Bangalore, India. According to police, the vehicle was being driven by the boy's brother-in-law, with a female passenger also present.
The clip shows a red SUV driving along a busy road, with the child standing through the sunroof. As the vehicle approaches an overhead barrier, the boy is struck hard on the head, causing his head to snap backwards. He quickly ducks back inside, and the car continues moving.
Fortunately, police confirmed that the boy did not sustain any serious injuries. However, the video has sparked widespread concern over road safety and parental negligence. Social media users expressed outrage, with one commenting: "Next time when you leave your kids popping their heads out, think once again!"
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of allowing children to stand through sunroofs. In 2023, an 18-year-old in Canada died after hitting his head on a concrete beam while sticking his head out of a sunroof in a car park at West Edmonton Mall.
