An 11-year-old boy has suffered life-changing injuries after falling between a tram and the platform at a Metrolink stop in Wythenshawe, south Manchester. Emergency services were called to the Crossacres stop on Brownley Road at approximately 3.40pm on Tuesday.
Greater Manchester Police said the child was struck by the tram as it began to move off from the stop. The boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a stable condition. The exact nature of his injuries has not been disclosed, but police described them as 'life-changing'.
A large emergency response was deployed, including an air ambulance, police, firefighters, and paramedics. A cordon was set up on Brownley Road and surrounding streets, and tram services to Manchester Airport were suspended for most of the evening while investigations took place.
Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident.
