When shopping for a high-quality vehicle, a luxury badge with plenty of features is appealing but can be expensive, with the average new car costing around $50,000. Edmunds experts have identified five used luxury vehicles available for under $40,000 that offer a refined driving experience, superior comfort, and advanced technology.
The seventh-generation BMW 3 Series (2019 onwards) delivers a fun drive with its turbocharged four-cylinder engine and improved handling. Look for a 2022-2024 330i with optional driver aids such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance.
Mercedes-Benz GLB (2020 onwards) is a subcompact luxury SUV with a roomy cabin and good visibility. The GLB 250 offers a smooth ride and high economy, with used 2023-2024 models available under $40,000. Ensure it has the optional advanced driver aids.
Genesis GV70 (2022 onwards) is a stylish small SUV with a choice of a 300-horsepower four-cylinder or a 375-horsepower V6. It features an attractive cabin and spacious cargo area. Look for 2022-2023 models; the 2.5T denotes the four-cylinder, 3.5T the V6.
Acura MDX (2022 redesign) is a three-row luxury SUV that is sporty yet comfortable. The base 290-horsepower V6 offers front- or all-wheel drive. The MDX A-Spec trim provides sportier styling and desirable features, with 2022 models easily found under $40,000.
Buick Enclave (2018-2024 generation) straddles mainstream and luxury, offering plenty of space for people and cargo. Aim for a 2023-2024 model in Premium trim for extras like ventilated front seats and a premium sound system. It provides more SUV for the money than rivals with more upscale badges.
