Aston Villa have reportedly made an offer for Alejandro Garnacho. The former Manchester United man looks set to leave Chelsea, with Aston Villa reportedly making an official offer.
Garnacho's move to Chelsea and struggles
The winger left United last summer, completing a £40 million move to Stamford Bridge. United also included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal. But he has struggled to make an impact with the Blues.
Last season, he made 24 Premier League appearances, scoring once and providing four assists. He missed out on a place in the Argentina squad for this summer's World Cup. He has not been involved in Chelsea's pre-season preparations amid speculation over his future.
Aston Villa's offer and impact on United
Aston Villa, who are set to lose Morgan Rogers to Chelsea in a £117 million deal, seem to be the most interested in the 22-year-old. Fabrizio Romano reports that Unai Emery's side have sent an offer to Chelsea that will see him sign on an initial loan with a buy clause included.
Talks are also said to be ongoing between Villa and the player over personal terms. It's not reported what the buy clause offered is, but it has previously been reported that Chelsea have set an asking price of £42 million.
If Villa's offer is accepted by Chelsea and Garnacho agrees to the move, it would be a blow to United this summer. The initial loan deal means that the club won't get any money from the sell-on clause included in the agreement with Chelsea last year.
If the price is anywhere near Chelsea's asking price, it means that United will have around £4.2 million less than they may have thought they would have this summer. The Athletic reports that the clause will be a conditional obligation to buy, but United could again miss out next summer if the conditions aren't met and Villa decide against making the move permanent.
Any extra money received from a deal for Garnacho will also be a boost in terms of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR). As Garnacho is classed as an academy graduate at United, any money brought in would go down as pure profit.
United have benefited from a sell-on clause already this summer. The club included a 40 per cent clause in the deal that saw Mason Greenwood move to Marseille in 2024. The United academy product moved from the French club to Fenerbahce earlier this month for a fee of around £33.2 million, meaning that United received around £13.3 million from the transfer. However, some of that will reportedly go to Getafe as part of the loan deal signed with the Spanish club in 2023.
