Emergency services respond to crash on A696

A road in Northumberland has been closed while emergency services deal with a crash. Police and paramedics rushed to the A696 just north of Otterburn following a collision on Sunday afternoon.

Police say they were called to the crash, which involved one vehicle, just before 3.45pm. They have closed a section of the road while they deal with the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Just before 3.45pm today (Sunday), we received a report of a single-vehicle collision on the A696 just north of Otterburn in Northumberland. Emergency services are currently on scene. A section of the road is closed and road users are advised to find alternate routes."

Ambulance service dispatches three crews

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has sent three ambulances to the scene. A spokesperson said: "We received a call at 4.01pm on Sunday 12 July to reports of a road traffic incident on the A696 in Otterburn, Northumberland. We dispatched three ambulance crews and a duty officer to the scene."

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the closure remains in place. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
