A686 still closed after car and school bus crash in Northumberland

A road closure remains in place on Thursday morning following a crash reported to involve a school bus and a car near to the Langley Castle Hotel in Northumberland. One casualty was taken to hospital in Newcastle following the incident that took place on the A686.

Road closed in both directions

The road is currently closed in both directions as accident investigation work is carried out between Langley Castle Hotel and the B6295. The emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance Service, attended the scene. The incident was reported at around 3.35pm on Wednesday.

Traffic monitoring showed the A686 was closed in both directions for several hours on Wednesday due to the incident which had "a bus and a car involved". It is understood that the casualty was not on the bus.

Ambulance service response

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A686 in Haydon Bridge at 15:35 on Wednesday 30 September 2026. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader and supported by Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS). One patient was taken to RVI hospital by road for further treatment."
