A stretch of the East Lancashire Road (A580) was closed for several hours following a fatal crash near Wigan. The incident occurred late on Monday evening, with the road shut between Millfield Lane and the M6 junction at Haydock.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported the closure began at around 11pm on Monday. The westbound carriageway remained closed from the M6 junction to Kenyons Lane South until approximately 7.45am on Tuesday.
A man in his 40s sadly died in the crash. Merseyside Police have been contacted for further details but have not yet provided additional information.
The closure caused significant congestion in the surrounding areas, with traffic maps showing queues building up near the scene. The road has since fully reopened.
