Lane closures on the A470 between Pontypridd and Cardiff will remain in place for 'several days' following a lorry crash, causing significant delays for commuters and concertgoers.
Crash details and immediate impact
An HGV struck the central reservation on Wednesday morning, damaging the barrier and requiring emergency repairs. Traffic Wales confirmed that lane two is shut in both directions between Pontypridd and the Upper Boat interchange. Drivers heading to and from Cardiff during rush hour are facing lengthy delays as a result.
Expected duration and advice
Traffic Wales stated that the lanes are expected to remain closed for several days while repairs continue. The organisation advised: "If you're travelling in or around Cardiff please plan your journey in advance, allow extra time for your trip and, where possible, consider alternative routes or avoid the area. Thank you for your patience while repairs continue."
Additional congestion from concerts
Disruption is likely to be compounded by multiple concerts in Cardiff over the next few days, including gigs at the Castle on Thursday and Friday. Higher traffic levels are expected in the area, potentially causing even longer delays. Drivers are urged to allow extra time or avoid peak travel times if possible.
