A woman has been taken to hospital and the M2 motorway in Kent remains closed this evening following a serious multi-vehicle collision that left a car in flames. The crash occurred on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3 near Rochester.
Kent Police were called at 4.12pm on 16 April to reports of a collision involving two cars. Emergency services, including fire and ambulance crews, attended the scene. A woman was taken to hospital, though her condition is not yet known.
Traffic information service Inrix reported that the M2 coastbound is closed due to a vehicle fire and serious accident involving multiple vehicles. National Highways confirmed the closure and advised motorists to plan ahead, with a diversion route marked by a solid circle symbol in place.
Massive congestion has built up along the route, with traffic backed up between junctions 2 and 3, and further delays on the A229 near junction 3. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and follow official diversion signs.
Separately, the A120 in Essex has also been closed in both directions between Braintree and Coggeshall following a collision involving a motorbike at around 3pm. Essex Police said the road is expected to remain closed for several hours while emergency services work at the scene.
