Two separate road traffic collisions on the A19 south of Sunderland have led to severe delays in both directions during the morning rush hour. The incidents have partially blocked both carriageways, causing significant tailbacks for commuters.

The southbound incident was first reported at around 6:05 am near Seaton, where the A19 is partially blocked from B1404 Seaton Lane to the A182 Murton Interchange at Cold Hesledon. Traffic in this area is moving very slowly.

The northbound crash occurred shortly after, at approximately 6:34 am, at the Herrington Interchange. The northbound carriageway is partially blocked from the A690 Durham Road (Herrington Interchange) to the A183 Chester Road. Congestion extends back to the A1018 Seaton Interchange.
