The cost of obtaining a new or replacement UK passport has increased, with some applicants now facing fees of up to £239.50. A standard adult passport applied for online now costs £102, up from £94.50, while paper applications have risen to £115.50 from £107. Child passport fees have also increased, with online applications costing £66.50 and postal applications £80.
For those applying from abroad, adult passport fees have risen to £116.50 (online) and £130 (paper), while child passports cost £75.50 and £89 respectively. The Premium one-day service now costs £239.50, up from £222.
However, individuals born on or before September 2, 1929, can apply for a new British passport or renew their existing one free of charge. This exemption also covers the Post Office Check and Send service and secure delivery. Charges still apply for urgent or frequent traveller passports with extra pages.
HM Passport Office advises that most applications are processed within three weeks. The fee increases take effect from April 8.
