Replacing a passport online costs £88.50, while a paper application costs £100. The online process requires a digital photo and payment by credit or debit card. For lost or stolen passports, applicants must first report them as cancelled and have someone verify their identity online.
Paper applications can be obtained from the Post Office or by calling the Passport Adviceline. Applicants need two identical printed photos and must have their form and one photo signed by someone else to confirm their identity. The standard processing time is three weeks, though it may take longer if further information or an interview is required.
For urgent travel, two fast-track options are available. The one-day premium service costs £207.50 (or £219.50 for a 54-page passport) and allows collection four hours after an appointment, which can be booked two days after applying. The one-week fast track costs £166.50 for adults (£178.50 for 54-page) and £135.50 for children (£147.50 for 54-page), with delivery by courier one week after the appointment.
