What Constitutes a Damaged Passport?
The Passport Office specifies that a passport is considered damaged if any information becomes unreadable due to issues such as blurred text or faded ink. Other signs of damage include missing, torn, or cut pages, holes or tears in the cover, a detaching cover, or marks like water damage or ink stains on the pages. These defects can cause significant problems at border controls, potentially resulting in denied entry or delays.
How to Replace a Damaged Passport
If your passport is found to be damaged, the quickest method for replacement is through the government's online service. This option costs £94.50 and requires a digital photo and a credit or debit card for payment. Alternatively, you can renew using a paper form available at local Post Offices, which costs £107. For applications that require an interview, the Passport Office now conducts these via online video calls, with arrangements made after your application is reviewed.
