Hamilton Accies Eye Double Signing Despite FIFA Ban
Hamilton Accies Eye Double Swoop Despite FIFA Ban

Hamilton Accies are eyeing a double signing swoop with Dom Thomas and Stuart Bannigan being lined up for moves to New Douglas Park.

The South Lanarkshire side are currently under a FIFA signing ban - but that hasn't stopped the club working away to line-up players for a League One title tilt next season.

Former Motherwell and Kilmarnock winger Thomas, 30, is on their list after his exit from Lanarkshire rivals Airdrieonians at the end of last season, while ex-Partick Thistle midfielder Bannigan is also a target for gaffer Darian Mackinnon following the expiry of the 33-year-old's contract with Championship side Ayr United.

Lanarkshire Live Sport also understands the club has a number of deals lined up and ready to go if their FIFA signing ban is lifted soon.

Despite being on the cusp of administration a number of times over the past year, Accies - who have been reported to the Pension Regulator for some pension contributions going unpaid in November, December and now January - are understood to be offering big wages for their level to entice players to the crisis club, which failed to pay some of their players correctly and on time towards the end of last season.

When Accies owner Rob Edwards took over the club in January with debts understood to be in the region of £5m, fans were told the wage bill would need to be slashed.

The club also recently faced a winding up petition from HMRC before paying a figure understood to be in excess of £90,000 to settle their debt and they are being pursued for around £320,000 by Document Solutions, which is linked to former club director Gerry Strain.

As we exclusively revealed last month, former Accies striker Andy Ryan is the club's big summer target and he has agreed a deal to make a sensational return to New Douglas Park for a third spell in his career. He recently left Northern Ireland Premiership side Larne, despite the side winning the title and having Champions League qualifiers lined up next month.

However, Accies can't sign new players until their FIFA ban, which came into force on May 27, is lifted.

The club has so far announced a host of contract extensions for last season's players with the likes of Stuart McKinstry, Josh Lane, Aaron Eadie and Cian Newbury among those committing to the club for another season.
