Footage has emerged of a Range Rover driver attempting to cross a flooded ford in Hall Green, Birmingham, despite a large flashing sign reading 'Caution. Do not cross'. The incident occurred last Thursday during a heavy downpour, with the water depth reaching 3ft.
The video shows the driver hesitating, reversing and edging forward multiple times before finally committing to the crossing. The front wheels became submerged before the driver reversed to safety.
The Environment Agency has warned drivers not to drive through floodwater, as depth and flow rate can change rapidly after rain. The agency has issued 70 flood warnings across the country, with the rivers Severn and Avon bursting their banks in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
Forecaster John Hammond of weathertrending said: 'There's a lot more rain to come, and that's worrying news for those hit by flooding.' Two inches of rain are expected this week, starting in the West and affecting flood-hit Yorkshire from Thursday.
