YouTubers Slam Gordon Ramsay's £93 Breakfast Bill Over £9 Toast Charge
YouTubers Criticise Gordon Ramsay's £93 Breakfast Over Toast Fee

YouTubers' Luxury Breakfast Experience Marred by Toast Pricing Controversy

Two prominent YouTube content creators embarked on a culinary journey to one of Gordon Ramsay's most esteemed London establishments, only to find their experience soured by a single item on the final bill. Gary Hanna, widely recognised online as Gary Eats, and his colleague Danny Macklin made the trip to The River Restaurant, nestled within the iconic Savoy Hotel, specifically to sample its acclaimed breakfast offerings.

A Menu of Contrasting Impressions and Culinary Delights

Gary selected the signature omelette Arnold Bennett, a dish priced at £20 and steeped in literary history. Named for the Stoke-on-Trent author who frequented the hotel, this creation features a rich blend of haddock, parmesan, and comte cheese. Gary was effusive in his praise, describing the eggs as exceptionally soft and the overall flavour as "mindblowingly good" and "outrageous" in its creamy perfection.

Danny opted for a more traditional "quintessentially British" breakfast, costing £24. While he commended the perfectly cooked bacon and declared the black pudding potentially the best he had ever tasted, surpassing even famed varieties from Bury, he immediately noted a personal grievance. "I don't care if I'm in The Savoy, if it's Gordon Ramsay's, I am not having beans in a pot. Mate, beans belong on a breakfast," Danny stated in their video review.

Sweet Success and a Sour Note on the Bill

Both men were unanimously impressed by the French toast, served with maple syrup and orange mascarpone for £15. Danny highlighted its visual appeal for social media, while Gary celebrated the combination of bread, syrup, and citrus as "fantastic". Danny whimsically added it would be "Paddington bear's dream," referencing the fictional character's love for marmalade.

However, the overall positive assessment was disrupted when the final bill arrived. The total came to £93, including a pot of tea, but it was the £9 charge for sourdough toast that provoked Gary's ire. "I'm a little bit annoyed by that. You should have the toast with the breakfast and with the Arnold Bennett because you need it. That's a little bit naughty," he argued, suggesting the cost should be integrated into the main dish prices.

High Scores Despite Pricing Grievance

Despite this criticism, both reviewers ultimately awarded the breakfast experience a score of nine out of ten, deducting a single point specifically for the contentious toast charge. Their visit coincides with the release of Ramsay's new Netflix series, Being Gordon Ramsay, which documents the launch of his latest venture, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High. The episode showcasing this opening is available on the streaming platform from today, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the chef's expanding culinary empire.
