A Yorkshire town has been named the second cheapest destination in the UK for a staycation, according to holiday cottage company Sykes. Saltburn-by-the-Sea, a Victorian coastal town in North Yorkshire, offers affordable breaks with stunning scenery and traditional charm.
Sykes analysed all destinations on its books and found the ten cheapest for a seven-night stay. Saltburn came second, with properties such as Chapel Cottage available for £453 for seven nights. A grand 14-person Victorian town house costs £348 per night.
Saltburn's attractions include its pier, the last remaining in Yorkshire, opened in 1869, and the Saltburn Cliff Tramway, Britain's oldest water-balanced cliff lift, running since 1884. The award-winning beach is famous for surfing, and visitors can enjoy clifftop walks, Valley Gardens, and a miniature railway.
Independent shops and cafés, such as Signals café, offer local experiences, while The Seaview Restaurant provides fresh seafood with sea views. Saltburn Arts hosts theatre, comedy, and live music. Colourful beach huts with electricity and running water are available for hire but require advance booking.
Louth in Lincolnshire topped the list as the cheapest staycation spot. Saltburn's ranking highlights it as an affordable alternative to pricier Yorkshire destinations like York, Harrogate, and Leeds.
