A new interactive map has been launched to help Britons discover 100 of the UK's most breathtaking 'off the beaten track' locations, from hidden beaches to secluded forests. Created by Jeep Compass in collaboration with Ordnance Survey experts, the digital map allows users to click on any spot to find nearby walking or cycling routes and activities.
Among the hidden gems featured are Berrow Beach in Somerset, Talybont Reservoir in Wales, Wistman's Wood in Devon, Finnich Gorge in Stirlingshire, and Symonds Yat Rock in Gloucestershire. The map aims to encourage exploration beyond popular tourist spots like Cornwall or Devon.
The launch follows a survey revealing that 31% of adults have not explored much of the UK, but over half now believe there is more to discover than they thought before the pandemic. Kris Cholmondeley, managing director of Jeep, said: 'There is so much of the Great British outdoors people have yet to experience. We want to enable people to travel off the beaten track.'
Limited physical copies of the map will be released via Jeep's UK social media channels. Nick Giles OBE, managing director of Ordnance Survey Leisure, added: 'It’s heartening to know that eight out of 10 people in Britain today would love to explore more of our wonderful country. We hope this map inspires people to have new mini adventures away from the more obvious hot spots.'
