A couple made a life-changing decision to leave the UK for Spain, discovering far more than they expected. Jeff Locke-Lavell, 73, and his wife Sarah moved to the Costa del Sol, quickly noticing three major differences: the warmth of the people, the relaxed pace of life, and the sunny weather.
From London's Hustle to Spanish Serenity
Jeff, who worked in London's fast-paced hospitality scene for 20 years, initially planned a quiet retirement. 'I thought I'd be slowing down,' he said. 'Instead, I've started a completely new chapter, and I'm happier than ever.' The couple fell in love with Spain during visits to Sarah's parents in Nerja, who had moved there over a decade ago.
A New Career at 73
After Sarah became a TUI Kids Club rep, Jeff applied for a role as a TUI BLUE rep at the TUI BLUE Sensatori Biomar in Majorca. 'At my age, you don't expect someone to say yes, but they did,' he said. His days now involve hosting welcome meetings, booking guest experiences, and sharing insider tips on hidden gems like the mountains around Sóller and Palma's old town.
Embracing Adventure
Jeff has even taken up scuba diving. 'It's something I've always wanted to do,' he shared. He encourages others to take similar leaps: 'Life's too short to sit back and wonder what if.' The couple spends days off exploring the island together, always finding something new.
Jeff's advice to holidaymakers: 'If you want to see the real Majorca, head to the mountains or take a boat trip along the coast. There are incredible hidden coves.' He added that the island offers more than people expect, from the cathedral in Palma to family-friendly experiences.
Reflecting on his journey, Jeff said, 'I thought my best years were behind me, but it turns out they were only just getting started.'
