Deliveroo Trials Jet Ski Food Deliveries on Bournemouth Beach

Deliveroo has launched a trial of jet ski food deliveries on Bournemouth beach, allowing holidaymakers to have meals brought directly to their deckchairs. The service, running throughout August, uses specially trained riders to deliver from local restaurants including Prezzo and Five Guys.

The company is gathering feedback on the trial before deciding whether to make it a permanent summer feature from 2018 along the British coastline. A Deliveroo spokesperson said: 'We are always looking for new and innovative ways to deliver our food in the most efficient and convenient way possible.'

Rival firm Uber has also introduced a seaside innovation with UberBOAT, a speedboat service in Croatia connecting tourist spots along the Adriatic coast. The service, available via the Uber app, operates from Split, Dubrovnik and the island of Hvar, offering boats for up to 12 people.

Prices for hiring a speedboat for up to eight people from Split to Hvar start at 2,600 kuna (around $400). Users can define their own itinerary or opt for an organised schedule. Both Deliveroo and Uber rely on workers in the 'gig economy', which has faced scrutiny over employment rights.
