Lanzarote, a popular holiday destination in the Canary Islands, has faced a wave of criticism from tourists who say they will not return due to unexpectedly poor weather. Videos on TikTok have gone viral, with holidaymakers sharing their disappointing experiences of rain and cold during what is typically a sunny getaway.
Keyra Griffiths posted footage urging people not to visit, claiming it rained for four out of five days of her trip. Other tourists echoed her sentiments, with one stating, 'I went for 16 days in March. I wouldn’t step foot there again. Never in my life have I worn a fleece on a holiday abroad.' Another commented, 'Here now. What a waste of money.'
However, not all visitors were dissatisfied. Some reported pleasant weather, with one traveller noting, 'I went in April, 13 to 21. Was lovely weather! Only had one bad day!' Another said, 'Just came home on Sunday from spending 10 days there, and it was lovely.'
The start of the year has seen Lanzarote experience its coldest and wettest winter in years, with storms such as Therese and Regina bringing strong winds and heavy rain. This marks a shift from previous milder winters, surprising many tourists who expect consistent sunshine.
Despite the recent complaints, Lanzarote remains a popular destination, attracting over three million visitors annually, primarily from the UK, Ireland, and Germany. The island is known for its volcanic landscapes, beaches, and mild climate, making it a top choice for winter sun and summer watersports.
