A 25-year-old woman from Edinburgh was whisked off on a spontaneous holiday to Italy by her Tinder match just hours after their first date. Lisa Shepherd matched with an American man visiting the UK, and after meeting on New Year's Eve 2025, they felt an immediate connection.
Knowing he would soon return to the US, the couple met again the following day, when he suggested a last-minute trip abroad. To choose the destination, they used ChatGPT to generate a list of European countries accessible from Scotland, then rolled dice to narrow it down. The result was Sicily, Italy, and they flew out the next day.
The four-night stay in Sicily felt like a 'fairytale', according to Lisa. She said they slow-danced on the street and wrote each other love letters by the end of the trip. 'It was automatically like we were best friends, it was like we'd known each other forever,' she said.
After the holiday, Lisa returned to Scotland and her date went back to America. The romance 'faded out naturally' due to the distance, but Lisa insists she has no regrets. 'I'm very spontaneous and absolutely love travel. I felt so safe and we got on so well,' she said, adding that she would consider another Tinder trip with the right person.
