The Rake and Riddle in Swansea is set to close once more and be transformed into a wellness resort under a new business plan called Casa, marking the second major change for the venue in two years.
Owners Refining Dining Co (RDC) announced the new vision for the well-established Penclawdd location, which it says will launch at the beginning of next year. The company has developed the concept alongside Andrew Tyrell, a local rambler and personal trainer with more than 30 years' experience.
Second Major Change in Two Years
In January 2025, the venue closed with "immediate effect" before being acquired by RDC, which transformed the business into "three concepts under one roof": The Welsh House, Cattle & Co Smokehouse and Salvatore's Pizzeria. Now, the company says the new wellness concept and flagship resort is planned to launch in early 2027.
Planned Facilities and Activities
A statement from RDC said: "RDC is transforming The Rake and Riddle into Casa, its new wellness concept and flagship resort, planned to launch in early 2027. With the Gower coastal path on its doorstep, Casa will bring together fitness, recovery, food, hospitality and overnight stays, creating a place to recharge, explore and enjoy at your own pace."
Plans include sunrise yoga, pilates, indoor and outdoor fitness classes, a private gym offering personal training sessions, a sauna and cold plunge baths, guided walks along the Gower coastal path, a café and restaurant, cooking classes, "Switch Off Sundays," retreat experiences with sound baths, and glamping, camping and apartments within the property.
The statement added: "Significant investment will support a full refurbishment of the property and surrounding grounds, beginning in the coming weeks."
Staff and Partnership Details
Over the past year, RDC developed the concept alongside Andrew Tyrell, and the two have since agreed a formal partnership, with three sites already earmarked across South Wales.
The statement continued: "Whether you join us for a class, a coffee, a recovery session or a weekend away, Casa will offer the freedom to shape your own experience. As we prepare for the transformation, every member of The Rake and Riddle team has been offered a role at one of our other venues, keeping their experience and familiar welcome within our wider family."
It concluded: "Thank you to everyone who has been part of The Rake and Riddle's story. We're proud of the memories made here and excited to welcome you into this next chapter."
