Some Airbnb users are reportedly using the platform not just for accommodation but also for casual sexual encounters, according to guests and hosts who have shared their experiences.
A 25-year-old British architect named Stuart told Business Insider he had sex with his 36-year-old Brazilian host during a stay in July. He said the encounters continued every night for a week without being noticed by others in the property.
Another user, Mary, described a one-night stand with a host at a coastal destination in England while on a surfing trip. She described the host as a 'serious silver fox' and said they hooked up after drinks at a local pub.
However, not all experiences have been positive. Italian Airbnb user Susy Anese, based in London, said she had to flee from a host in Paris who made unwanted advances. Airbnb initially offered a £60 voucher but later refunded the booking after the story emerged, with a spokesman apologising for the initial response.
More serious incidents have occurred, including the case of Pablo Cesar Cordoba Riascos, a host in Barcelona jailed for 12 years for raping two American women in 2014.
